Sculptural painter, Bernard Saint Maxent,
BIOGRAPHY OF THE ARTIST
The Artiane Gallery has followed Bernard Saint Maxent since his first steps into the Art market in 2000, notably in Bruxelles, and now wishes to salute the flawless fidelity of the artist. Today, many international galleries recognize and value the self-taught artist that he is. Art director to himself, his innovative creativity and his commitment have allowed him to freely develop his art, just as he’d always desired.
A PAINTING-SCULPTURE MIX
Matchless and evocative, this work of art pops out of the walls! It is a permanent wink to good humor, playful, not provocative, and always smiling. Sculptor before everything, Bernard Saint Maxent certainly enjoys himself, but also amazes us by realizing some of his sculptures in bronze. Every piece is numbered and therefore a unique piece within its category.
“My art must be a device that conveys pleasure,” said Saint Maxent.
The gentle dreamer lying down on the world as if he was gazing at the stars in “Total Relax”, and the happy fellow climbing over the world as if living was simply another game “Jump”, are just as many self-portraits! Finally, on demands, urban installations and staged acts have come to live. Indeed, the gallery is at your disposal to carefully customize and personalize your painting with the flawless complicity of the artist: “My art must be a device that conveys pleasure” says modestly Saint Maxent.
SCULPTURAL PAINTING POPPING OUT OF THE FRAME
Saint Maxent fabulously and commonly displays traits of love, life, mutual aid, complicity, and simplicity. As a choice of life, they are the recurring themes on this combination of sculptures and paintings. His eccentric character brings life into his scenes with sculptures in strong resin textures and polished of bronze or silver. His work, therefore, comes out of the frame in a beautiful structured and mastered relief. Bernard Saint Maxent’s latest collection has adapted itself to a more contemporary style: the artist changed the traditional canvas he used for a metal plate, providing an ultra-modern touch.
REFLEXION THROUGH PLEASURE
The artist freely progresses by choosing new materials and by integrating street backgrounds where words and the odd expression reveal themselves in the graphism. It is to Siméon, 11 years old, that Saint Maxent offers, as a father, all of his trust and complicity by realizing the firsts “4 hands made” paintings. We said it, his inspiration finds its source from the Burlesque scenes of Buster Keaton and Charlie Chaplin, but even more from current affairs and advertisement, confronting the paradoxes of modern life with his own points of view.
Bernard Saint Maxent believes that art should be associated with the lightness of the person and that it should lead us to reflexion through pleasure.
